Disabled Veterans National Foundation Sends Shipment of Goods Worth Nearly $170,000 to Albany Veterans Organization

WASHINGTON, DC – June 23, 2016 – The Disabled Veterans National Foundation (DVNF)(www.dvnf.org) is announcing its participation in the first-ever SpartanNash fundraising campaign supporting active duty military, veterans, and their families. This event will be a scan campaign at the company’s participating food stores from now until July 4th.

During the campaign, each of the more than 55 SpartanNash-owned retail stores and fuel centers across the Midwest and Colorado will invite customers to donate $1, $5 or $10 at any checkout lane.

Fundraising dollars will be evenly split between DVNF and Honor and Remember – a national non-profit working to create and promote a nationally recognized flag to honor all fallen servicemen and servicewomen.

“Patriotism is one of our company’s core values, and SpartanNash is excited to support our nation’s military and veterans,” said Meredith Gremel, vice president of corporate affairs and communications and executive director of the SpartanNash Foundation. “SpartanNash is the leading food distributor to U.S. military commissaries and exchanges in the world, and this patriotic scan is one more way we can support the men and women who have served or are currently serving our country.”

“We’re grateful for not only SpartanNash’s choice in supporting DVNF, but also their willingness to give back to those who have given so much,” said DVNF CEO Joseph VanFonda (USMC SgtMaj Ret.). “With these funds we hope to be able to contribute even more to disabled and at-risk veterans throughout the country.”

A complete list of locations participating in the companywide scan campaign and the organizations they are partnering with to support military heroes is available at SpartanNash.com/militaryheroes/.

The patriotic scan is the third of five scan campaigns the SpartanNash Foundation will execute in 2016. To date, nearly $350,000 has been raised for local Habitat for Humanity and Special Olympics partners.

About DVNF:
The Disabled Veterans National Foundation exists to provide critically needed support to disabled and at-risk veterans who leave the military wounded—physically or psychologically—after defending our safety and our freedom.

We achieve this mission by:
• Providing an online resource database that allows veterans to navigate the complex process of seeking benefits that they are entitled to as a result of their military service, as well as additional resources they need.
• Offering direct financial support to veteran organizations that address the unique needs of veterans, and whose missions align with that of DVNF.
• Providing supplemental assistance to homeless and low-income veterans through the Health & Comfort program and various empowerment resources.
• Serving as a thought leader on critical policy issues within the veteran community, and educating the public accordingly.
