Grants to Provide Stability (GPS) Home Program

The Disabled Veterans National Foundation GPS (Grants to Provide Stability) Home Program is a grant program for veterans who find themselves in a temporary financial setback. DVNF will provide up to $1,000 (not guaranteed) to help eligible veterans pay for rent or mortgage, or up to $500 for essential utilities such as water or electricity.
The availability of this grant is extremely limited, so please know that while you may be in need and fit our eligibility requirements, we can only approve as many as our budget allows, so this should be one of many resources to consider. If you submit a grant and are not approved, please understand that there are many veterans in need and we can only approve the ones that we feel best match our criteria, and can most easily recover from a financial setback.

Examples of grants we are more likely to approve:

•I am a veteran who lost my job due to layoffs, but I recently got a new one. Unfortunately, I don’t get my first paycheck until next month, and I will need to pay my rent before that time. I have a short-term problem now, but will be fine next month.

•I usually have enough money to support myself but I had an unexpected, but necessary, expense this past month (funeral expenses, hospital bills, major car repairs, etc.) that needed to be paid. Now I am short on my rent and don’t have enough money to pay both the expense and my regular bills. I will be caught up if I can get assistance.

Examples of grants that we are least likely to approve:

•I have been out of work for 3 years, and am $3,000 behind on my rent and will be evicted if I don’t come up with the money.

•I filed a claim with the VA, but haven’t received it yet and need help.

•I am a veteran in need of assistance because my rent is more than my monthly income and I have constantly been behind since I moved into my current apartment/house.

•My cable bill was really high this month, and I won’t have enough money to pay rent.

If you are a veteran in need of assistance, and feel that you would qualify for the GPS grant, you can find our application here. It is extremely important that you read the application carefully and follow the instructions, submitting all required documents. Incomplete applications may result in immediate denial.
